I think that depends a lot on what your life was like before having kids.
To respond to your other question too - I have gained far more from having children than I have ever given up by having children.

How to answer without sounding cheesy;)
I've gained an incredible appreciate for how frail we are. I've gained patience, perpsective, and the ability to give up a huge number of personal "needs." I've gained incredible capacity to love, and to accept basic truths. Also huge balance between what I used to value, and what I now think is more important.
