Stater Brother's brand of unsweetened applesauce is made from apples, water and ascorbic acid (vitamin C). The 23 oz jar has 5 1/2 cup servings for $1.79. Gerber applesauce has 2 2.5 oz (looked to be about 1/4 cup servings per container) servings for $1.39; ingredients: apples and ascorbic acid. The nutritional values are the same. The store brand 1/4 cup serving would cost 17.5 cents; the Gerber 70 cents.
Sunbelt Fruit & Grain cereal bars: 8 bars for $1.99 (25 cents per bar/serving). Baby food isle fruit and cereal bars were 6 for $3.99 (67 cents per bar/serving). Same nutritional values. Both listed corn syrup as an ingredient. Neither one had hfcs.
I would put my homemade pureed baby food in the baby food jars that I got from my sister's daycare. Now I get the square plastic containers from her. They're great for lunch containers.
You're welcome. Joy and family are still here and she helped me look. Her research is a lot newer than mine was before today. To be honest, I didn't read all the ingredients on either box of fruit and cereal bars. Both had a list that covered the entire side panel of each box. But I did specifically look for surgars in general and hfcs in particular. Both were made from fruit puree. And I couldn't remember the brand of the baby food bars but all the brands offered were the same number of bars for the same price.
Great, I've had that Electric Company song in my head ever since watching it, LOL. I was walking around the block with the baby singing under my breath "Punctuation! Pun, pun, pun, punctuation!"
Not any more. They had salt, sugar, and a few other chemical sounding things back when the girls were eating pureed foods. Sometimes between Angela and Dylan, that changed.

I found out that with Dylan but price difference still got to me. And pureeing food just wasn't a big deal to me.
