What have you "given up" in order to have and parent children?

see I went by that study that said silver medalists were usually happier than gold medalists when I decided to by pass ye old gold standard and go for the silver medal of formula...

Nor should you ever feel guilty. I think Ducky's comment was in response to Hazel's knowing only a couple of women IRL who breast fed. I did both, concurrently, according to what was best for me mostly.

It was actually the comment that Ducky said she thought it 'sad' that so many women were feeding their babies formula

well. fine. but honestly until I had a kid I had NO idea women spent EONS of their time coming down on other women for what they fed THEIR OWN KIDS. I was so stunned when I discovered this debate -- mostly b/c when I stopped breastfeeding when liza was 2 weeks old (she was dehydrated and has lost nearly a pound at that point) all these women kept saying "oh...don't be SAD...I know you must feel GUILTY" and I was like um... no... why? i honest to god had no idea other women cared that much what was in Liza's bottle. to this day I remain baffled by it.

you know the only vegetabls lizas had this weekends have been the onions in the onion rings we ate but that's my choice and my family and this debate is comparable to someone cluck clucking at our order at the dairy bar at the beach yesterday. I fed my child the BEST thing for her at the time. period. If it would have stopped the scraming banshee hell that was her infancy I would have fed her a martini with 3 olives and I'm only 1/2 kidding.

I never thought that either, but the fact remains, breastfeeding IS better that formula. Does that make formula poison? No, of course not. But does formula being acceptable make it as good as breastmilk? No, not that either. For everything good to be said about formula, breast milk is a superior product. it's silly to pretend otherwise.

LOL, in Britain they used to rub gin on babies' gums, it took the teething pain and made them nice and sleepy. I was not aware of this debate either till long after the fact. I did what worked for me, which included some breast feeding. Back then there was still a lot of propaganda in favor of formula, and I found it slightly odd, in part because I came from a culture in which it was the norm to breast feed.

Yay you? I don't know what the big deal is about admitting breastmilk is superior to formula. The point is the FORMULA companies admit it, so when Hazel (and anyone else) starts going off about how breastmilk gives nothing that can't be had from formula, it's not true.

And I fed John formula, so this isn't a Mommy Olympic thing either. I am not now nor have I ever said formula is BAD or that Moms that feed it are lousy Moms.

Nevertheless breastmilk IS superior and in the case of women in reduced means, breastfeeding their infants can have economic advantages along with everything else (no bottles infrastructure, cleaning, formula buying/mixing/keeping fresh). What's the big deal? You don't mind admitting you wouldn't dust if God himself were coming for dinner, so why worried if people say formula isn't as good as breastmilk?

I never said breastmilk wasn't better - I just don't think formula is BAD there's a huge difference between 'next best alternative' and (as one incredibly annoying woman on my progessive liberal moms blog site said) "the harmful flora of forumla" seriously..who talks taht way?

"I am another one for whom bottle feeding truely was the best choice. "

Me too. My body worked well enough to make a baby (after clomid prodding), but not well enough to provide milk. My mothering ability increased exponentially when I was able to get at least one segment of REM sleep (4 hours) each night.
