What have you "given up" in order to have and parent children?

No, that's exactly wrong. The way statistics work, all can be compared, individuals can not. What it means for individuals, for example, is that if statistically a breastfed baby has a higher IQ by 5 pts, then an individual child would likely have a higher IQ if he or she was breastfed, but it doesn't mean that Joey will have a higher IQ than Timmy, if Joey was BF and Timmy was FF. This is because of a difference in starting point.

yeah I guess but I just don't honestly don't see why we get so hot and bothered about it.

And honestly? At the time I never once sat there and thought "ok I am choosing to feed my child something inferior" I thought "i am finally getting myself out of the massive hell that is breastfeeding hallelujah"

but then again we've eating onion rings AND ice cream twice this weekend so as you can see i'm not exactly the nutrition police. I am however the fun police...;-)

I knew a few women who formula fed, but my mom, my aunts and cousins on her side, both of my grandmothers, and DH's mom all breastfed.

I didn't get my period back until about 5 1/2 months postpartum-- now that's a benefit. ;)

Yes, like I said before-- lower income women are more likely to feed formula than higher income women. Also, lower income women generally qualify for free formula through WIC.

Did you know they actually have different growth charts for babies who are formula fed versus breastfed? They have different growth patterns in the first year or two.

I'm not any more "judgmental" about this than I am about my other food choices. (Which would be, not at all.) I BF for the same reason that I make most things from scratch, avoid HFCS and processed food, etc. Other people don't, that's fine. I'm just trying to correct RLGLs misinformation campaign that only poor people BF, etc. I guess it's a lost cause, but it's something to do. :) My biggest question about this is usually... why did you feed formula? And you have a great reason. There were many many benefits to using formula that far outweighed any benefits of BF. Reasons like... I had enough money to FF? A little stupid.
