What have you "given up" in order to have and parent children?

Ha! I'd done more than my time with all-nighter cramming at Denny's. When we were at DLI, the night before a unit test, our class (well those of us who lived on coffee, and occasionally some of the ice cream sundae folks would join us), would meet at Denny's around 9pm, spread our grammar books all over the table, dig out the vocabulary flash cards and tip the waitress $40 ahead of time to keep the coffee coming.

By the time we graduated that one waitress could probably past the language proficiency test in basic Czech, too! ;)

We made several trips from IL to WV and back in Samantha's first year and a half. It was really easy at first and got more difficult as she got older. But the trips really got long when we could no longer drive on interstates because of an issue with my DH.

I guess you have a knack that I lack. I apparently don't attract or maintain friendships with people who would be willing to take care of both my children for several days.

"You know, I have the feeling you wouldn't be so incredulous about this if I said most of the moms I know could handle taking care of their kids for a weekend by themselves.

So he went from being a burden on you after your marriage choreswise, to a parent who did more after you had kids?

For us, it's not just if their learning suffers. I don't find it appropriate for a 10 or 12 year old to be so tired he takes a 2 or 3 hour nap on the weekends. To me, that means the child is totally exhausted.
