What have you "given up" in order to have and parent children?

Why are the moms automatically assumed to be the ones with the high (read: correct) standars and the dads are not?

No you did not, but the thread that led up to your post was talking about having people in ones life that are able to take care of ones children overnight. See below. That I why I thought you were talking about having and maintaining relationships with people that were willing to take your DD over night.

Redlight: “But you do realize how lucky you have been, no? Many people do not have relatives who are close enough to watch their child overnight let alone for a couple of hours.”

Pumpkin: “I don't know if it's luck or that we work to maintain those types of relationships.”

MKat” I agree - I have worked very very hard at maintaining the relationships i my life-- to the point that my friends call me the "keeper in toucher" (whcih sounds kind of dirty but whatever) -- and am I" mpleased I did as they are a big part of my life both WITH LIza and when she's not in residence.”

Samantha ate a lot of the same things at 18 months that we did. She eats pretty much only the same stuff we eat now. It still takes a lot longer to eat with her than without her.

I think it's a society thing and something we're slowly but surely overcoming.

The main problem I've observed is that dads can't or won't multitask and they are happy to take care of the kids, but don't do any household maintenance.

Because among the dozen or so families I know well enough to comment upon, it's uniformly the mom who has higher standards than the dad.
