What have you "given up" in order to have and parent children?

true I guess. But then remember I'm the person who once turned to the new arrivals behind me in line at a Starbucks and said "Oh good! you're just in time for the singalong --all together now..."

Yes. We. Did.

Yes and I know many parents are very lax with their children and discipline.

I think that is great but again, when someone has a mortgage to pay, it is quite hard for them to save for a vacation. :)

I responded to her because she agreed with your post. So, how do you attract and maintain friends who are willing to take your children for several days?

So you can say you maintain relationships BUT can't explain what that means to you??

They ate what we did pretty much at a year old....with a bit of alteration (ie smashing of food for them or cutting really small).

If I had waited for mine to have teeth, they would have been eating pureed cake at their first birthday. By 10 months they were eating mostly people food off their high chairs. Avocado, tofu, mashed potatoes, bits of banana, peas, pasta, pancakes (minus the syrup), toast, bits of hotdogs, scrambled eggs (after one year), pb&j, tuna, salmon, carrots, cottage cheese, grated cheddar cheese, canned pineapple, pears and peaches in juice, anything cut up small that could be squished between fingers. On the other hand, there were kids at Dylan's daycare that were still being spoon fed babyfood from jars at 14-15 months because they had no interest or ability to feed themselves. Both extremes are "normal".
