Same with dd. She didn't get a taste for spice until about age 6. Until then, I'd serve her some of the spicy food but also make a blander dish for her. Over time she grew to eat more and more of the spicy dishes dh and I were eating. At about 6 I entirely dropped the spice/bland dichotomy but until then she wanted no part of red peppers, garlic and so on.
For us, dd was eating blander food than dh and I. We like to pile on the spices si I'd often make a blander version of the dishes for her. As she got older, she acquired a taste for spice but she certainly didn't have it at 18 months.
It was so funny, ds2 called me when they landed on dh's phone and I asked him how the flight was and he said, "Great, the food was really great, I ate the entire time on the plane!".
