What have you "given up" in order to have and parent children?

Our home would come to a grand screeching halt. There are five of us living in the house. Some involved in sports. Uniforms need to be done on or before game day. DS#1 is growing so fast that I cannot keep him in certain kinds of clothes so I only buy him things like two pairs of jeans at a time. The last two pairs I bought him, he outgrew in two months. More is a waste. But it means laundry every day.

I'm explaining the reasoning behind why some parents are reluctant to go away for the weekend and leave the other parent in charge.

"I am fully resigned to the fact that when I travel for business, the kids will not get any fresh veggies, and the vacuum cleaner will not be run and the toilet will not be clean when I get home."

I wouldn't want that.

Sure, if you don't count household stuff as part of what he's willing and required to do.

It's not that I "want" the kids not to have veggies, or the toilets to need cleaning when I get home, it's just that I have pretty much figured out that they won't come to any harm if my standards are not met.

You really married a man whose standards are inferior to yours in every way? I think I'd be kinda bored and unsatisfied if I didn't have something to look up to, admire, and try to emulate when it comes to DH. But then, I don't know a single person on the planet whose standards are inferior to mine in every way.
