What have you "given up" in order to have and parent children?

I don't think that it's hyperbole, I've met many of them. And I've heard of quite a few on this board.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm gone for a couple of days, and there are 545 posts to read! We'll see if I get anywhere.

I'm sure there would be. Personally, I didn't get married and have children to be a single parent a lot of the time, but that's just me.

We have a mortgage and a half (rental covers the other half) and, luckily, we've always been able to save to take a week's vacation in the summer -- as well as a small motorcycle trip for dh and I.

I'm sure it's not an easy thing to know beforehand. I am definitely speaking of after being married and already having the child. I figure if I have to do it myself, what's the point of having another person around to bother me?

Sorry, can't answer that.

Yeah, but why would you want to?

Well, I think it varies.

I agree with you, well cared for kids is the bottom line.

I never bought a jar of baby food in my life. Well.. I did a couple of times when I had some dental work when I was in my teens.. LOL. My kids went straight from breastmilk to table food.

I used baby food (well, the homemade version) as a way to introduce solids (single, bland foods).

I agree... I think "higher standards" is code for "control freak" or "he does it different than I do and I don't like it." I can see where the problem may not lie with the father. I've met a few who don't do much because once scolded enough times, they give up. Some people take the old saying, "If you want it done your way, do it yourself", way too far.
