What have you "given up" in order to have and parent children?

I agree, it's highly unlikely that any long term harm will occur.

When my DH travels, which is rare these days, there's nothing of his I need to pick up the slack for.

Higher standards are better than lower standards by definition. The person with higher standards has no inherent right to expect the other person to live up to them.

Not wanting to spend endless time with one's children in no way equals a single parent household.

Some people like to go to movies, to eat, to parties, that late.

Having a clean toilet is a higher standard than a dirty toilet.

Having no dishes in the sink after a meal is a higher standard than clean dishes still in the dishwasher and dirty dishes left in the sink.

A house that is vacuumed and dusted is a higher standard than a house that needs vacuuming and dusting.

It's objectively measurable.

Not all dads are ignoring the household due to their hands on involvement with the kids and their activities.

My DH doesn't really contribute to the standards of family life - he's the fun parent for about 2 hours a weekday, that's what he does.

"Isn't it a bit remarkable that some dhs don't have to be the main breadwinner OR lift a finger at home?"

No.

The one weekend I went away he fed the kids low nutritional crap and there was a pile of dirty dishes in the sink. Noticeable spills never wiped up on the kitchen and powder room floors.
