What have you "given up" in order to have and parent children?

Key words: "(for what and where we prefer to vacation)" You could blame your expensive vacation tastes rather than your mortgage.

Is the carpet a need like your new couch was a need?

That's because you made that up.

We had a dog for almost 13 years. There are stains and the smell of a dog still after 6 months of his passing. I would definately say a carpet is a need for us as my dog had MANY accidents (#1, #2, #3 and thow-up episodes) the last couple of years and it REALLY needs to go.

OK, so nothing to do with the 2-year plan?

No, I read it incorrectly. IME babies are usually eating cereal after a couple of months and then baby food, either jarred or homemade between 4-12 months, formula or breastmilk until about 10-12 months and then whole milk and table food.

Just saying that we have 2 years to save up for what we purchase and if we chose a vacation over that, it still would not be enough money, even with the interest we make

Then you read it wrong. Straight from breastmilk to table food means that I didn't buy commercial baby food, not that I did one and then the other.

Actually for the last ten years or so, the standard advice is not to start ANY solids before 6ms.

I said 9 to 10 months, but to be honest, I don't remember. LOL... I remember that we introduced solid food when they expressed an interest in it, not at a set age.

Interestingly though, a lot of ped's still tell parents they can start between 4-6 mos.
