No they are not. Sometimes higher standards can be the result of crippling perfectionism or some kind of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Sometimes "higher standards" can be a way of exerting power and control and have any intrinsic value at all.
I'd say homemade baby food would be pureed veggies and fruits made especially for babies by their parents separate from what the parents are eating-- In contrast with table foods which would be small mashed bits that parents feed the baby from what they themselves are eating.
I got called crunchy granola a lot.. LOL. I figured that women have been having babies for hundreds of years, and didn't need books. I just did what came naturally, and it seemed to work out pretty well.
There are standards and there are standards. It is enough for me that all my clothes in my closet are hung up neatly. I have a friends who is not comfortable unless all the hangars in her closet match and all her clothes are grouped by the colors of the rainbow. She imposes that level of control on her husband and soon-to-be three children. I don't think her standards are "higher" than mine. Having that level of need for control/order would be crippling for me. And it would lead to needless anxiety and fights with my kids, who demand a "reason" for every thing, and I have never felt that "I feel better if all your red clothes are together and hung next to your orange clothes" is enough of a reason to impose my standards on everyone else in the family.
