What have you "given up" in order to have and parent children?

Probably takes less time. I'm a once or twice a week gal, here. I pretty much have to deep clean the whole bathroom twice a week though, because small children will drag some crazy stuff in there. I found a jar of minnows living in there this week.

She said that she didn't buy baby food, not that she didn't feed solids before stopping breastfeeding. I didn't buy baby food either. The first food that my kids got was oatmeal left over from dh's breakfast. I pureed food for maybe 3 months. By 10 months, a good half, if not more, of their solid food came from the table. I nursed 6 months, 9 months, 18 months and more than 2 years.

I invented my own method, it seemed to work pretty well. (For the first one.) The second time around was was packed full of interventions, unfortunately, but sometimes you have no choice in the matter.

If I waited until my house was clean and all the chores/work done before I did anything, I would never get to do what I want to do.

I rarely fed my son baby food. 99% of the time I pureed what I was eating. It's cheaper and MUCH more nutritious. When we used jarred food was when we traveled (we traveled internationally quite a bit during his first year).

Why would we need a separate savings account for vacations? As part of our cash flow, we allocate $xxx of each paycheck to "pre-big" - it goes into DH's regular savings account. We use it as a short term savings account. Pre-big are those things that are not monthly, but we know that they come up during the year. For example, the twice a year property taxes, the 4x a year insurance payments, vacations, house maintenance...

Long term savings go to 401ks, IRAs and Fidelity accounts.
