What kind of errands....

Do you run on a daily basis? Weekly basis? Monthly basis?

I've often heard people say that they need a lot of time during the week to run errands and that those errands would otherwise take up their evenings and weekends if they had to WOH ft. It made me curious because I just don't seem to have many errands to run at all. Are we just lazy :-)?

As I said, the only "family emergency" I would leave work for would have to involve DH or one of my ds'.

So my issue was re-wearing a wedding dress, not that fact that she wore a vintage 1920s dress to her wedding.

That's one theory. In any case, do you have a point?

Then there are alot of mothers out there then who should be spending time calling lawyers, rather than wasting time whining about how fathers can still come and go as they please, children not withstanding.

What was the point of your re-posting it?

The joy of playing is directly related to the goal of winning. It provides the motivation. The child can't experience soccer if the child isn't trying to score goals to help the team win, and/or trying to prevent opposing goals for the same purpose. That IS soccer. Thats WHY kids will congregate on the school yard, set up goal areas, put goalies in them, pick teams and go about playing. If it wasn't - they would just all stand around and kick balls in random directions and at irrelevant targets.

Why oh why would anyone have to do that?

This is the sort of post I meant when I said your kids have a competitive lifestyle.

Its not the parents demanding anything. The parents aren't clued in until the information relevant to their oldest child goes out. The reason parents have their kids go out initially is to see what its all about. If the kid makes it the kids stay for one reason. Plain and simple - comp leagues are plain and simple, more fun. The kids are allowed to improve, develop and perform. They get to spend real time with kids and develop real friendships. They have shared goals and teamates who share those goals. They get to go on trips and have big social weekends with their friends. Thats also the reason why so many more kids want to be on those teams than the teams can accomodate. I have yet to find one kid who is on an elite team, who doesn't want to be on it. I know scads who want to try but aren't allowed, or just don't have the skills. I also know very many parents who held back their older child thinking just as you do - but then find out what its REALLY all about, get envious of the fun other kids have, and let their younger kids go out. Which then generates lots of sibbling envy and older sibs trying out for teams which they really have no chance of ever making, talent not withstanding, becasue they are now years behind. Thats a very sad, but unfortunately very common, occurence. You should really do more homework. What exactly is it you think happens on an elite or comp team, that an 8 yr old isn't ready to handle? Especially given that you seem to have noticed - rec leagues don't attract the best coaches?
