What kind of errands....

Do you run on a daily basis? Weekly basis? Monthly basis?

I've often heard people say that they need a lot of time during the week to run errands and that those errands would otherwise take up their evenings and weekends if they had to WOH ft. It made me curious because I just don't seem to have many errands to run at all. Are we just lazy :-)?

Um, that's why schools around here ask for 2 to 3 back up emergency numbers. To get the kid out of there ASAP.

Maybe QM lives in a Latino neighborhood. That explains the popularity of soccer in her world. Who knew?

It's largely a socioeconomic thing. Women who are well-educated and career oriented are more likely to delay childbirth, and there are plenty of women like that in your area. Also, I would think the col would have a significant effect. People tend to wait until they've achieved some level of financial stability before having children, and that can take longer in high col areas. I had my first child at 32 and the second shortly before my 36th birthday. That's fairly standard where I live, which is a fairly affluent suburb of a large city. In both the inner city and rural areas, you're likely to find a lot more young mothers.

You'll have to explain that to my dd, who played softball for two years without ever once knowing the final score of a game.

To you. And that's too bad. Personally I've played field hockey, soccer, tennis and a number of other sports. I'm fiercely competative but to me, the joy is in playing. My DH played rugby for Australia. You don't get much more competative than that and he simply *loves* the game. Its not at all about just winning. If you don't get that...its a shame. But don't ASSume that everyone shares the same flaw.

Both my sons have played recreational basketball, where no score is kept until 3rd grade; DS#2 plays non-competitive baseball, where no scores are announced and every player plays every position. He couldn't possibly have any more joy in playing the game. He was recruited for a competitive team recently and turned it down because he didn't want to get stuck playing shortstop all the time. He just wants to play the game.

I live in a fairly blue collar area, and I am most often the youngest parent.

But isn't that because the younger ones are all barefoot and in the kitchen?

Yes, if a person is a sahm, that necessarily means she cannot afford a cell phone. Good point. And being so empty-headed, she must apparently wait <> because buying a cell phone on her own might involve too much imagination on her part.
