What kind of errands....

Do you run on a daily basis? Weekly basis? Monthly basis?

I've often heard people say that they need a lot of time during the week to run errands and that those errands would otherwise take up their evenings and weekends if they had to WOH ft. It made me curious because I just don't seem to have many errands to run at all. Are we just lazy :-)?

Do you think all parents should spend the percentage of their income on kids' activities that you do?

Then your judgment that your children have fun playing on competitive teams comes from your own experience when you were their age?

I don't know what you think asap might mean to a school nurse. I think alot of school nurses are moms who might be inclined to interpret it as 'as soon as the parent of the puking child in this school arrives to take him off my hands, I will jump in my car to pick up my own puking child from another school'. I think.

Only until she gets the call about her own puking child in another school. Then she'll just run off leaving yours behind unattended to get to hers asap.

And that doesn't count adoptions. My DD's class has three families with adopted children...the parents are all in their 40's-50's.

I remember doing my Lamaze class at Tisch for first time mothers...I think I was the only one under 35 in that group ;) (I was 24 at the time)

What team is that you imagine you and the nurse are on?

We have a school staffed largely by - guess what - working parents. Most of those are part of dual income households too. I know what team I'm on.

I make up my list with actual emergencies in mind - as in who can make important decisiosn for my children on my behalf. Not with an eye as to which person I know is most likley to sit at home, a home as close as possible to the school. 11.5 years. No problems.
You might councel me to consider what would happen if my kid were really really puking at school. I mean really puking. Not just puking. But really puking. And I couldn't ditch and run and the alternative contacts weren't avaialbe to do puking child duty. I might want to councel you to consider what would happen if you and your husband were dead and the alternative conacts were chosen based primarily upon ability to reach the school in short order.

Now see, there's a regional difference right there. Our recreational leagues are mostly organized by neighborhood or school district within the city. Anybody can play. There are rules about equal playing time and everybody gets to try every position no score is kept and no league standings are kept and stuff like that. Competitive teams are organized by skill level and coaches can decide how to use players except there are rules about kids not pitching more than a certain number of innings a game and a week. Elite, something else entirely. My kids have enjoyed playing recreational, not least because it's friends from the same school and neighborhood playing together. DS#1 moved up to competitive basketball two seasons ago.

Wouldn't the nurse be entitled to the same from you as a parent? To think twice before you second guess her judgment in contacting you?
