What kind of errands....

Do you run on a daily basis? Weekly basis? Monthly basis?

I've often heard people say that they need a lot of time during the week to run errands and that those errands would otherwise take up their evenings and weekends if they had to WOH ft. It made me curious because I just don't seem to have many errands to run at all. Are we just lazy :-)?

No, its based on what the kids say and how they react. Neither they, nor I, could judge the potential for fun from the outside. I didn't participate as a child. My real tip off that it was worth taking a shot at was this. People with kids in the system thought it was great. People who did it themselves as kids thought it was great too. The people who hated it always prefaced their statements with 'We would never let the kids...' Many of the parents who do bring their kids out do it initially based on their own positive childhood of experience. Thank goodness I noticed what was going on around me in terms of both options becoming available and in terms of who reacted how. Kids eventually notice all this too. But its often to late to start participating by the time they notice.

"Now see, there's a regional difference right there. Our recreational leagues are mostly organized by neighborhood or school district within the city."

There are no regional differences allowed. Everyhing is the same everywhere. Why haven't you accepted this already?

The team managing my dd's medical needs. The nurse coordinates with me, dh, dd's physicians, and dd's teachers to manage her needs at school. It's quite common, by anyone's definition.

She's a wohm. Earlier you said wohms have the more desirable attribute of being completely accessible by phone, while sahms are not. Now you're saying the exact opposite. Hmmmm.

See your post #15996.1201.

There are alot of years and alot of ways a parent may choose to spend money, to benefit a child and a family in a lifelong way, in between the private nanny years and the elite college years. You might want to give some thought to your particular options given your particular ses, in that 12 year child rearing span.

I expect you spend darn near as much, if not more, on your dc arrangements alone, as I ever spent on dc and activities combined. And I'm sure you will spend far more on your children's college educations. Yes, I judge your strategy to be as far as I can tell, a little weak in the middle, given your ses. No I don't expect everyone to spend $17,000/yr on kids activities and family recreation. I expect most people at my income level will piss away that ammount somewhere or other on mere lifestyle costs though. Pools, cottages, boats, things like that, they all add up. Fine wine. Fancy restaurants. Expensive art work. Home decor. Home renos.

Plus, these children presumably have fathers too.
