What kind of errands....

Do you run on a daily basis? Weekly basis? Monthly basis?

I've often heard people say that they need a lot of time during the week to run errands and that those errands would otherwise take up their evenings and weekends if they had to WOH ft. It made me curious because I just don't seem to have many errands to run at all. Are we just lazy :-)?

No. Scoring isn't the same as trying to win. Your empty argument is that one cannot avoid competition when playing a game, by any definition, but it isn't so.

We can play softball, or our version thereof, try to score, and pay no attention at all to the outcome. We can play one-on-one "basketball" very athletically and have no idea who got more baskets. No competition. Still basketball. Still fun.

In with the good air, out with the bad air. Where did you say that there being "as few as 3 or 4" was a critical part of what MADE it a SOFTBALL GAME, as opposed to just being the critical mass needed for you personally to mess around with a softball? While you're at it, what difference does it make what you said when, as it's clear, the relevant rule in effect is, the recreational sport of softball is anything YOU define it as, and anything I'd define it as is semantics? (And it doesn't occur to you that even you give it another name other than "a softball game?")

Um, no, that is what the game is. Anything you're talking about is a "variation." And called something else. Like pickup game. Or softball practice.

You can plan on hitting the ball without keeping score or worrying about getting one over on somebody.
Congratulations! I'm so happy to hear it. I just heard the good news and popped back over, just in case you were still checking in.

Most runners 'race' just for the fun of it? Are you sure?

No go. Doesn't meet the criteria.

You're trying to score. You're trying to keep other people from scoring. Your refusal to notice whether or not you actually do any of this doesn't change the fact that it's what you're deliberately doing - and having fun doing.

Well of course. Too bad it doesn't bear any relation whatsoever to anything anyone has said.

Wouldn't it be interesting to know if PA is trying anything like that? She WON'T SAY whether she has ever tried to hit a ball.

Seriously, this is explaining a lot. It explains all the people at family parties who like to 'play' volleyball. They like to line up on either side of the net, rotate with everyone else, jump to the side and giggle wildly if the ball comes anywhere near them. An annoying bunch.

I used to think they were just bad at volleyball. Now I know different. It's actually a whole mind set....a different version of what 'playing volleyball' means. Thanks (really)...I didn't know that people could actually approach sport in that manner. It's very weird to me.

Oh good. Thank you. We're getting back on track. The achievement goal is important to actual enjoyment of athletic persuit. Its not really optional. Its a good thing that it works this way because it reduces the occurence of runners stranded far from home. Now if you cleverly note how your husband did not decide to dervive said achievement by scaling the tallest building on route, but chose a goal related to a finish line, you will understand why winning is the relevant goal setting achievement in team sport. Or then again, I don't know why I think you would.
