What kind of errands....

Do you run on a daily basis? Weekly basis? Monthly basis?

I've often heard people say that they need a lot of time during the week to run errands and that those errands would otherwise take up their evenings and weekends if they had to WOH ft. It made me curious because I just don't seem to have many errands to run at all. Are we just lazy :-)?

Maybe they "do virtually nothing active as a family" - so what? If she and her dh and her kids have no interest in sports, beyond walking around the block or whatever, is that something that requires explanation? And if she thinks her kids will be tired in full day kindergarten, does that also add to her being Guilty of Couch Potato-ness in Family Life?

That's probably true, but it's also true that different things tire kids in different ways. John was an extremely active kid, but all day school just kicked his heiney that first year, because he really wasn't ready to give up napping that soon. Had nothing to do with his activity levels, but everything to do with his ability to maintain it without the 3 hour rest period he was used to. He actually didn't sleep any more hours than "average" for his age; he simply hadn't transitioned, physiologically, to gettng all that sleep in one sitting.

That's normal enough in the kindie/1st grade levels that teachers warn parents about it.

I don't see it. I certainly don't feel that way. Activity level is almost always a matter of personal preference. Nobody has said a thing about whether she should prefer a different level of organized activity.

John had to be driven to many of his activities at age 14. We hardly live in the sticks. Had it not been for the fact that my ex's parents were still alive to do a significant amount of the chauffering, John's ability to participate would have been sharply limited.

You don't see that PNJ is being put on the defensive because she's apparently not that rah-rah about the "active family" thing? And that her kids are being seen as deprived because she's apparently not providing "enough" of the "right" sporty activities for them individually and as a family? And that her own activity level might not have that much to do with her kids' activity level? To me, there's a strong pro-sports bias in the thread that smacks of too many adults having seen too many of those billboard ads for Newports - "Alive With Pleasure!!!"

In my experience it usually takes a couple of months for them to adjust.

No, not hogwash. If PNJ had said it's hard these days to get good and drunk because she has little kids around, most responses would have been in the nature of, "Oh, yeah, it is hard, but it's probably better for family life if you don't get blasted as often, anyway." But let her say one thing about how kayaking or whatever with her kids ain't what it used to be, and several posters jump all over her case.

But that's the thing. She didn't say "it ain't what it used to be" she said she doesn't do it because she has little kids.

Oh please. Give me one post which says she "should" have her sons in even a single "official" activity. Or that her family "should" be active. She could sit on her couch 24/7 and I wouldn't care. I just don't think grownups should pretend they really really really want to do things but just caaaaaan't because they have kids.
