What kind of errands....
2007

Do you run on a daily basis? Weekly basis? Monthly basis?

I've often heard people say that they need a lot of time during the week to run errands and that those errands would otherwise take up their evenings and weekends if they had to WOH ft. It made me curious because I just don't seem to have many errands to run at all. Are we just lazy :-)?

This post makes no sense. The part you quoted perfectly illustrates that I most certainly do NOT believe Felicia is "in the camp of people who 'really really really' wants to do activity X." She talked about how she was so active before having kids and really couldn't be so active after kids and ascribed that difference to the kids themselves - that was the pretending part - not to her interests having changed, which, as I have said, is the actual part.

ITA with your post. Just wanted to add that a person CAN miss an activity that he/she used to enjoy before kids and CAN talk about missing the activity without being called a 'whiner', at least in my book.

Sure. Best if she doesn't blame it on the kids' presence on the planet though.

That's where we are never going to agree. I have plenty of activities that I used to do that I miss doing and that I don't do expressly because the kids exist. I don't stay up playing cards all night with my girlfriends. I don't snowboard. I don't pick up and take off for a weekend in Toronto or Chicago with dh anymore. I 'don't' do those things because the kids exist.

Could I? I suppose I could. But, I don't because it's all a logistical PITA. BUT, I do look forward to doing those things again in the future, when the kids are older and easier. I guess I just don't want to do those things badly enough to warrant the hassle that goes along with making them happen. But I still miss them.

I think that PNJ's "I can't" is more because of the logistical PITA issues. It's annoying to me that the "Yes you can" faction blows off the PITA aspect of adventures with kids like it doesn't matter at all. If your adventure was once, "Hop in the car and go." and has turned into "Get the diaper bag packed, load in the stroller, get snacks, make potty stops, strap in and make sure naps are accounted for later the the day, etc, etc, etc." you can't just act like it's just as easy and enjoyable as it once was. It's 'different', different in fun ways but also different in annoying ways. Can't ignore that part.

"Could I? I suppose I could. But, I don't because it's all a logistical PITA." Right. Then that's the reason. Not that they exist.

If they didn't exist, there wouldn't be a logistical problem.

The "logistical problem" of having children is the choice of the parents.

ITA "I can't because of the kids" is meaningless. But if she won't because neither she nor her kids really want to, there's no issue there.

The disadvantage to being "active," however, is that your kids come to expect every day to be action-packed and fun-filled from beginning to end, or else "we never do aaannnything."

If someone says they did something frequently that they didn't have to do, it could be that they nevertheless thought they should do it, and it could be that they enjoyed it somewhat but not that much. Who really knows?

I do think Felicia's lifestyle choices have been bashed in this thread. I think they've also been bashed at other times, though not without reason. Either way, she does seem to be a good sport about it, IMO.
