What kind of errands....

Do you run on a daily basis? Weekly basis? Monthly basis?

I've often heard people say that they need a lot of time during the week to run errands and that those errands would otherwise take up their evenings and weekends if they had to WOH ft. It made me curious because I just don't seem to have many errands to run at all. Are we just lazy :-)?

Could be. Could also be the case that all the guys who make the cut in whatever company they end up in all played high school football and now play golf together and their wives play tennis together.

Are we talking different terminology here? In my town, we have recreational ball, where everybody plays and there is no attempt to match up teams by playing level or anything -- teams are organized by neighborhood or elementary school district. Then we have competitive, where kids try out and are placed on teams by skill level -- nobody is turned down but the goal is to make the teams as even as possible so that not any one team gets all the best players. And they keep score and publish league standings in competitive. And then there are the elite teams, where you have to try out. Elite players are often recruited from competitive leagues.

DS#1 plays competitive basketball for the Park & Rec teams and then will try out for his school team later this year. Since you have to qualify for a school team, though, most of the players will have played elite level ball. We know it's a long shot but he wants to go for it.

DS#2 has played recreational baseball and recreational basketball. He has been recruited for competitive teams in that coaches will come up to him and ask him to try out for competitive. But so far he has no interest because he likes to play pitcher, catcher and shortstop and in recreational, everybody has a chance to do it all. Some days he even wants to be an outfielder like his hero, Shoeless Joe Jackson. In competitive, he'd probably end up as a shortstop/relief pitcher.

We've had no interest whatsoever in elite level play yet because honestly, we'd have to cut down on other stuff the kids enjoy doing if we were travelling all over the state to play ball.

Easy. Don't drive it any place you need to go with two kids.

I do appear human to those with whom I spend the majority of my waking hours. I don't spend the majority of my waking hours with anyone on this board.

I wasn't talking about doing something "incorrectly on purpose" either. I don't think I know anyone who does things "incorrectly on purpose."

Yes, I have admitted making a mistake on this board.

Think this through. They have to drive SOMETHING to the places they need to go with two kids. Or do you think that they should just never drive anywhere with 2 kids until both are out of carseats? That sounds like an, um, problem.

I do appear both human and fallible where I spend hours each day. Shrug.

That's funny. I don't know any families where there is "one whole person whose job it is to be on call in the event of a sickness at school." Nevertheless I know dozens who have sufficient arrangements so it wouldn't be a problem, let alone an emergency, if a kid had to come home. I don't think it's me who needs to stretch her mind just a tad.

The travel gets to be a huge commitment, for parents as well as kids. It may not be worthwhile, even if a kid is talented.

Think this through. Some people have more than one car.
