What kind of errands....

Do you run on a daily basis? Weekly basis? Monthly basis?

I've often heard people say that they need a lot of time during the week to run errands and that those errands would otherwise take up their evenings and weekends if they had to WOH ft. It made me curious because I just don't seem to have many errands to run at all. Are we just lazy :-)?

If you push it beyond the point of ridiculous, nothing can mandate anybody to do anything. You can go live in a cave with your kids, never go anywhere, and depend on the good earth for sustenance. But I thought we were trying to talk about reality, or what passes for reality for most people IRL.

You delegated your car purchasing decisions to someone without the capacity to so much as hold their head up straight? Why, precisely, did that seem like a good idea?

Not all of them, but the overwhelming majority, yes. We can always discuss exceptions to any rule, but how can we have a meaningful conversation without reference to what's typical?

No matter how you torture it, "typical" or "convenient" is never going to mean the same as "must."

I am talking about reality. And in reality, an infant never dictated the sale or purchase of a car to an adult. You live in some sort of fantasyland where they even get to pick the make.

I'm no good at running either. The 30k I just did? I had to keep asking the workers if I was last or not, lol. Turns out I beat about 15 people out of 300 (it was a competative race...the winner finished in 1:20).

No, but who cares? "Must" is one of those absolutes, like "always" and "never", that seldom add to this type of discussion.

Again, "never" never gets you anywhere. When we adopted our first baby, we felt we needed to trade in our two-seater for a sedan. Didn't see any alternative. The baby was pretty quiet about it, and yet she spoke very loudly.

You know? I often wish my parents were more pushy than they were. They didn't want to push me to do anything, but I wanted to do everything. I had to figure out how to audition for the local theatre myself when I was 5 years old (because I wanted to be Annie...I wasn't, btw). I wished my parents were more interested in my desires and would try to find lessons for me and such, but they were 'hands off'. I think it's kind of hard for some kids to focus and really excel if their interests are all over the place, unless they have a guide.

But, my chubby self wouldn't have excelled in QM's family, regardless. Phew.

Quite possibly.
