what made you decide to do what you do?

In the interest of changing the subject back to something that is actually relevant to a SAH/WOH debate (LOL!), I will pose a question to anyone who wants to answer:

Who or what would you say was the greatest influence on your decision to SAH or WOH, whichever one you do (or want to do, if you aren't doing what you want)? Did any particular person, circumstance, situation, or anything else lead you to decide this question one way or the other?

What if two different influences conflicted? How did you make the decision then?

Thats right. What rock do you have your head under? Kids who spend all their time reading are going to be in one iota better shape physically, than kids who spend the same ammount of time in front of a video game. Books as babysitters are not a good thing. If its too much sitting around in inactivity, its too much sitting around in inactivity.

Actually since I clearly explained that my kids do gynmastics (also a session or two of swimming each year) and piano, why are you asking?

But I will repeat. Unless the kid is achieving something, they aren't going to stick with the activity for long.

Swimming lessons come with badge levels to complete. So does skating. So does gymnastics. Gym as a one hour a week rec activity doesn't last too long. Its cute for the little kids, but it ammounts to not much more than supervised play time. Most drop out by 7/8 yrs if they haven't joined some sort of competitive program. Piano comes with music to learn, books to complete, recitals to perform. So does dance. So does girl guides.

What effect do you think a life of all theater/arts, no sports, have on the physical fitness level of children, and of the adults they become?

Well they miscalulate the winter burden here as well. Then the entire city grinds to a halt. But that never stopped anyone making it to the tobagganing hill or onto someones front lawn/backyard to build snowmen and snowforts.

You have to limit it? Or they'll park in front of the box? Really. Too bad for your kids. For some reaosn, neither my kids, nor their friends, find the things all that enticing. They can play for awhile you know, but they get tired soon enough.

You should try playing. Or you are trying to manage something without understanding what you're managing.

So then, like I said, I have an open mind.

<>

Yes they do. They tell them that that sort of activity is not a great goal for a child one wishes to be healthy. Down time has a place. As the goal...well, I guess we know why there are so many doughy unhealthy kids.

<>

Oh, they do if they have the encouragement and support from their families. Closed minds decide that a kid will only like what a kid will like - all nature, no nurture. Because thats what closed minds have been led to believe.

I think its hilarious when people view non-conformist opinions, that don't jive with the popular pc line, as being designed to "rile".

Just like some kids would eat candy until they threw up, some kids would play video games until their eyes bulged out. I'm lucky enough to have kids who don't like candy all that much, so they don't eat much of it. But they would play video games until their eyes bulged out, unless I just told them to find something else to do, preferably outside, where they can get some fresh air.

Actually, the board, society in general, is easily riled. No desire to rile required. Just have to be cheeky enough to dare to post a non board-pc opinion.

My points don't get lost.

And I don't do the muddling. Thats you. And nice try, but as usual, not working.
