What events or circumstances might cause you to go from SAH to WAH or WOH, or any other change in work status?

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Aside from the usual, death, disability and loss of job of spouse, I would change my work status if YDS' condition changed and he no longer needed as much help or if we determined an expensive private school was his best option. I get a soft offer of a job once in a while or so, and I take the time to re-evaluate.

I have always planned to back to work at some time- especially when kiddos are off to college. However, recently DH and I had a conversation about it. One plan we have is for DH to take a job that requires tons of travel and I can be "traveling spouse" for the few years left before retirement. That is 10 years away though - too much can happen in between.

Right now, I feel like I hit the jackpot with the perfect job. So the only thing that would make me leave it is if I felt that my children were suffering. If one of them had a physical condition that involved weakened immunity, for example, I would not want them in day care. If I could not find a suitable nanny, then I would SAH. Same if one of them was having a difficult time (emotionally or socially) with day care after a reasonable adjustment period and seemed really unhappy (not just here and there, but unhappy generally).

Now, if my job ceases to be perfect, then I suppose winning the lottery or my dh suddenly doubling his salary would also be cause to change my work status.

Annoying things said to Stay At Home Moms
by mommyniri

I am looking for feedback to write an article on annoying things/assumptions people make on SAHM stay at home moms or dad. This will appear in my blog...and hopefully stop some stereotyping.

Thanks,

If DH couldnt care for our kids, I'd SAH. Other than that, I like what I do, I love our set up, so I can't see what else would change our scenario.

I am a WAHM, and if DH's salary doubled I'd contemplate becoming a SAHM.

You're 15 years too young to retire.

I would say winning the lottery or a serious family illness.
