What events or circumstances might cause you to go from SAH to WAH or WOH, or any other change in work status?

Have a great weekend, everyone!

currently I am FTSAHM since Nov/06....and I am kinda sorta looking for work now as DS is old enough for the prek program(optional), and I am *ready* to have some space from him.

Plus...we have skimped on a lot(savings and "extras") for me to be home so I'd like to start bringing some add'l income into the house to get retirement savings building again...and finance some new ski equipment.....possibly a dirtbike......

OH, and with Tristan being 4 this winter we'll be putting him in the ski program, outfitting him with his own gear etc....so costs are rising for us.

Plus....I miss being around other adults.

I changed from woh to sah/wah when Erica was born and we found out that dc and her didn't mix. I've change jobs when my work schedule didn't fit in with Dylan's dc hours. As long as things stay the way they are, so will my work status. But I have no idea what the future will bring. I'll decide when it gets here.

If we had no debt and DH earned about 50% more than he does, I'd feel financially comfortable staying home. As it is, though, we're already cutting it too close for comfort on 1 1/2 incomes.

Hitting the lottery. -- then i'd be an unemployed-but-working-with-volunteer-stuff-so-much-I-might-as-well-be-employed-mom

Having a seriously ill child -- I suppose if my child had severe special needs, I might need to be a SAHM to take care of him/her.

My own illness -- If something mental or physical stopped me from working.

Having dh's V fail and getting pg with triplets might force me to become a SAHM.

I applied for a job a couple of weeks ago....It turns out the person who WAS leaving decided not to go...no job.

I would return to work, for the right job, the right price, and the right schedule.

I suppose my work status might change if I won the lotto.

Good question!

For me it will change when my youngest enters first grade (Kindy is only "half day" and that, it's really only 3.5 hours). At that time I'll have a senior in high school, a junior in high school, a 5th grader, a 3rd grader and a 1st grader....so I'll work PT out of the house but I'd want to be home at 3pm *most* days for another 12 years or so.

I don't know if I will EVER be a full time employee again. Maybe in 17 years???
