If you're working and you don't normally use DC because your kids are at school, what are your plans for daytime childcare and activities for the summer?

I'm off all day, so I'll go hang at the pool.

If I'm feeling especially mean, I'll send the kid a voicemail, so when he gets off work, he can hear the water splashing.

:D

When my kids were preschool aged, the pool was the place we went to everyday for several hours. We also took week long trips to see relatives in CT and NC as well as a week "vacation".

Now that they are school aged, they have several weeks of camps, a few weeks of lounging and the annual summer treks to NC and CT. We are not having a "vacation" this summer as we did Disney last Nov. and plan on doing Morocco next summer.

Our neighbors who have two school aged children and flexible schedules resulting in no school year childcare, use camps and annual family trips (usually 3 weeks) to Morocco. They have a Karate camp for the Winter and Spring breaks too. They have also flown in grandma to cover odd weeks. The hodgepodge seems to be the norm.

Nanny as baseline childcare, plus a couple of weeks of camp and a vacation in there too.

We now have summer down to a science -- David is covering the week between the end of school and the beginning of camp and I am covering the weeks between the end of camp and start of school!

Yes. We. Did.
