If you're a WOH/WAH mom, what sort of "downsizing" would you need to do in order to afford to be a SAHM? (SAHM defined here as not earning any money)

For me, I would have to put all our non-essential possessions in storage and move in with my parents.

There can be a relatively natural consequence or "rule" of getting an F. That can be losing out on an activity. But that comes after the F.

"The kid ultimately has to decide if he wants good grades or not."

Yes, but "ultimately" is not in elementary school.

Certainly not from me, I have detailed many a post that described the amount of time that I have put into the education of my children on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis...in fact I've been described as over-involved before.

IMO, elementary school is the best place for a kid to learn to do it himself. There is a cheap price to pay for failure. If they learn in HS the cost is higher. In college, when the parent isn't there to nag them about doing their homework- the cost is astronomical.

*nodding*.

and, when the kids are older, even the parents don't always need to be doling out that "after" consequence. In HS (most of them), no-pass-no-play. So, if a kid gets a D in a class, basketball is automatically out, or football, or cheerleading, or speech/debate, or chess team.
