What would YOU have to do to SAH?

If you're a WOH/WAH mom, what sort of "downsizing" would you need to do in order to afford to be a SAHM? (SAHM defined here as not earning any money)

For me, I would have to put all our non-essential possessions in storage and move in with my parents.

>> So basically what you are saying is that you would get a tutor so you could continue doing your "things". Gotcha :) <<

If that's what you got out of that post, you should probably go back and read it again.

>> yeah, for some reason, she doesn't break down into tears when her teacher tells her "Look at this one again. Where'd you get 64 in the second line?" or yell "Okay okay! I get it!" when she tells her something for the 3rd time, or stomp off into her room adn slam her book on her desk when it's finally all done. <<

I'm so sorry for you - that sounds just like my YDS.

Please show where this has been said, thanks.

Ahhhhh, now I understand why ODS algebra teacher offers so many tutoring sessions each week..... :-D

Hahahahahh! I love this tactic! I've employed it many times.

I don't mean to say that you don't know your kids, but you really never know. Nothing could have prepared me, or alerted me, that my diligent little YDS who spent his preschool years doing fake homework with his older brother because he didn't want to be "left out", would turn into a quivering mass of tears and drama every week in second grade because he had to write a three sentence story once a week for homework. This is a child who has tested high on every assessment test he's ever taken. He has no learning differences. He knew how to do the work. He just did. not. want. to. Oh, the horror!

I spent more time and emotional energy dealing with that (which thankfully only lasted that one year, and god only knows why that was) than I have dealing with both of their homework combined for all the other years they've been in school.

Seriously, that's all you think it takes to get a good job? OMG.

As a current middle school teacher -- a BIG "DOUBLE DITTO" for me!

I do agree with this. There are some students in my classes who are just "natural" organizers. They get a paper, they put it right into their notebook. One girl has all her subjects in her notebook (with dividers) and not a single paper crumpled or out of place. It's fairly impressive.

Another student walks into the room with a P-I-L-E of books and papers. Everything goes into the pile -- homework, classwork, etc.

<>

sure. but it's important to learn how to be organized to do things like pay bills -- and pay them on time, etc.

<.

I disagree. I think it's a HUGELY important skill to learn both for that class AND for the future.

<>

so if a child doesn't turn in the homework that was due today (NO matter that it had been due on FRIDAY and thus they had 3 EXTRA days), what should I do about that? Give them the same grade as all the others that had it done on time? Not count it at all?

I had one of those students making up the homework during her lunch period (she brought her lunch to me), the other will be in my room tomorrow at 7:20 before school. As the first child has a pattern of losing things (especially homework), I will probably e-mail mom and let her know that she didn't have her worksheet for class today.
