If you're a WOH/WAH mom, what sort of "downsizing" would you need to do in order to afford to be a SAHM? (SAHM defined here as not earning any money)

For me, I would have to put all our non-essential possessions in storage and move in with my parents.

And I have a successful career without having any degree in my field. I could earn more money if I was willing to move and give up the flexibility and family friendly atmosphere that I have now.

University of Phoenix isn't exclusively online. It is a fully accredit brick and mortar school. All of Joy's teachers work in the accounting field as well as having Masters in their subject. And Joy graduated not only with a degree but with job experience in that field.

Do you believe based on your interactions with her that mightyoaks' class status has decreased solely because of her current household income?

If so, if/when her household income increases to middle class levels, will she magically become middle class?

Yeah, good point. Since it's mostly our money, I want my kids to pick their colleges for more fact-based reasons rather than emotional ones.

I do not think it is that simple. Middle class kids do well, on average, simply because they are middle class. It is a collection of the habits and reflexes, as well as knowledge, their parents possess that combine to make it so.

Do you want them to be happy where they are? do you want them to like the environment, the culture, the extra curricular offerings, the philopshy of the school? Do you want them to feel at home on the campus, do you want them to have their eyes opened to any number of possibilities?

No, I've never refused to admit they exist -- of course they do.

I want my kids to choose a college based on what is a good fit for them and whatever they decide to study.

How else one approach picking a college?

I'm glad I'm not that invested in Liza's college choices this early in her life.... right now im' more invested in her learning how to apply deodorant and walk with out tripping over her ever growing feet.
