What would YOU have to do to SAH?

If you're a WOH/WAH mom, what sort of "downsizing" would you need to do in order to afford to be a SAHM? (SAHM defined here as not earning any money)

For me, I would have to put all our non-essential possessions in storage and move in with my parents.

Yes and it sounds corny but I want my children to think of the world as their classroom, that learning extends outside of school and the kitchen table/desk in their room.

Yes it is and one of the harder things to do as a parent sometimes.

I think it has to do with the parent not the child.

No, but it's a partnership between us and the teacher, and I believe parents have a direct role in their childrens' educations. Less and less the older the child is, but a role nonetheless.

Because without it, her family will still have its basic needs met and not get thrown into jail, which may happen if she doesn't work and her dd doesn't go to school?

I don't go around calling my passions "needs" or an essential part of my hands on learning, though.

I have no problem with a parent choosing to use a tutor if he or she is unable or unwilling or thinks it inadvisable for the parent/child relationship or whatever for the parent to do the teaching him or herself.

I just don't think it's realistic to expect every teacher in every subject to be able to fully teach each concept to each child.

Maybe you have daily, or more than weekly, ways to get info about what's going on in your childrens' classrooms other than talking to your children. I don't really - get e-mails every once in a while from the teachers, use Blackboard, etc., but without daily homework and discussion time, I wouldn't get the quantity of information I feel I need.
