That's why I think it's important for parents (if they are able) to look at their child's completed homework, point out problems that they got wrong, and review concepts with them if they still don't get it right. It's not always as simple as "Well, I'll only help them if they say they need help." Sometimes a child thinks they're doing something right when they're not, so why would they ask for help? I'm more interested in them actually understanding the material than in making some kind of point about how their grades aren't my problem.
I don't. A classroom is just one of many avenues to acquire an education. It's one that we chose for Dylan at this time. The time he spends in museums, renfaires, and reenactments are just as important as what he learns in a classroom. The two compliment each other.
