Eh! One of my profs is Moroccan and educated in french private school in Morocco as well as in a French U. All the same, he speaks very nice Standard Arabic. I am sure that is not how he speaks when he is back in the old hood, but nor is it a foreign language to him. The key, as in many languages, is to know the literary language.

I imagine if this man were your Dad. He is not only a medical doctor, but also has a PhD in Chemical Engineering and now he is about to become an astronaut! I'll bet his mother is a proud mom.
Well, I think Norwegian wins that contest, lol. Any kind of Arabic will pretty much get you a job right now, and even if it is Moroccan you know, you can learn the other dialects fairly easily.

No, we was an exchange student in 1979. He also speaks German - from a year in Germany in college and more classes when he came back. His native language is American English.
He once had a "debate" with one of our neighbors. She speaks Moroccan Arabic (from a Fulbrite stint after college). They debated which language was the least practical. :)
