Family has dual WOHPs. The Dad was recently suspended without just cause and without pay based on hearsay.

How quickly could he find work if he did look?

He probably could find work right away but at this point would like to stay at home.

I would have to guess at this. My guess would be that he is feeling low self-esteem, maybe depression, that is causing him to make this choice. My advice, if I were asked, would be that he should take a little time before making this choice.

If he's a good dad, I think the kids would benefit from having him at home for a while. But I do think he should also be willing to cook, clean, pack lunches, and maintain the home frugally so that the working mom actually benefits in some way from having him at home--since she's forgoing his salary.

Does the wife think he would make a good SAHD? Or will the kids be in front of the TV all day?

What does the mother think of his parenting abilities more importantly than what he's said in the past? If he's a good dad the kids and he could have a really great time. And they'd save on DC costs......and he could help out in other ways as well around the house, with meals, shopping, etc.

I don't think there should be any reason a dad can't SAH when its something the family can afford.

If you switeched out "mom" for "dad" here --- would there even *be* a question assuming she wanted to SAH too?

What does he intend to do about the unjust suspension? Will there be a hearing? A court case? What sort of job was it?

I would say he's being irresponsible.

Barely getting by with no savings is not the time to decide you don't want to work.

If this were my family, I'd tell my DH to get a job.
