"I don't understand how you and DH, together, only have one load of laundry per week."
One load it is. DH wears suits to work so that's a issue for us. I don't need to dress up for work and can wear the same outfit 2 days in a row if I want to. "Don't you wash your pajamas weekly also?"
Yes, pj's weekly. One or 2 pairs a week.
"Doesn't anyone in the family have exercise clothes?"
DH and I wear the same thing to exercise everyday. Why does it have to be a new outfit? We hang it in the laundry room to air out and wear it again.
"I thought you had two daughters. Only one?"
I do have 2 daughters. Where does it say I only have one?
I think she means, rather than do it every day, save it and do 2 or 3 loads one day of the week, and 2 or 3 loads another day of the week. I can see where you might not have the time though.
But she called doing it every day wasting energy. Aside from the very small energy savings of having the dryer already hot when you do subsequent loads there is no energy difference between doing 5 loads a week, one each day or 5 loads a week, all on one day. I prefer to to the later, but it is just that a preference. My way is in no way the better way.
We do 3-5 loads a week (summer less- winter more). Two boys. We change sheets everyother week and towels every week. Kitchen towels get changed more frequently (we try not to use paper) but they are small and don't take up much space - same for napkins. We try to wear our clothes for two days (pants 3)(dh and I do, the boys it is hit or miss.) - it cuts down on wear and tear from the washing and it cuts down on the wash. (Underwear is changed daily)
We dry clean once or twice a year as we wash DH's shirts and workpants. I can't wear drycleaned clothes (get a rash)- so I do it as infreqwntly as possible with my posh frocks (whic I air out well before I wear).
I misunderstood. I thought she meant "wasting your energy" as in wasting PNJs personal energy, not "wasting energy" as in electricity/natural gas. Of course the latter makes more sense... LOL.
I also do laundry five days a week, although sometimes 4. This wastes no more energy than doing it twice a week would. This is because I never run partial loads (an energy waster), only full loads. So letting it build up over several days would not reult in fewer overall loads, but rather in more loads run in one day. Which is not conveneient for me.
The other problem withing batching laundry and running several loads in one day rather than the same number of loads spaced out over several days is that too much batching of laundry gives stains a chance to set.
PNJ has two little kids so I'd be surprised if she's running partial loads.
You must have a HUGE washing machine. There is no way I could fit a week's worth of dd's clothes into it, let alone mine or dh's. Even though her clothes are far smaller in size than either of ours, she goes through more than one load of laundry in a week. And dh? He goes to the gym every day so each day he generates 2 sets of dirty clothes. I generate somewhat less because I go 3x per week. And then there are pajamas...

It's a matter of personal preference, but all of us like weekly sheet changes.

We can debate that until the cows come home, I have no problem with that. But, I was told by others to debate other things, LOL.
