Which came first, the title or the SAHW?

Last night I attended my husband's work Christmas party. I sat with the CEO, CFO, CTO, COO (Chief operations officer, I didn't know that acronym, I had to ask), Creative Director, Marketing Director and their wives. Near the end of the evening it was just we wives chatting mostly about kids. I made the observation that even though all the wives were intelligent, educated and accomplished women, not a single one (except me), woh. They are all SAHM's.

Any thoughts on why that might be? I have my own opinion but I'd like to hear from everyone else first. Do you think they sah because of their husbands jobs or their husbands have their jobs because the wives stay home? Or doesn't it matter?

Our savings would come along quicker, but I absolutely would not base our living upon the extra income. We live below our income now.You are livng on one income and saving/investing/using for extras the other, right?

My folks bought us all tickets to see it on Broadway (Beth saw it in Charlotte). From the very first note, I was absolutely amazed and in awe. It was truly breathtaking! You *have* to see it. I'm sorry, but going to see a NYC Broadway show is something that is not debateable in my eyes. It's a must. At least once in everyone's lifetime. There is nothing like it in the world! I took Beth's DD to see Chicago about 6 years ago. Marilu Henner, Bebe Neuwirth and Joel Gray were in it. Both of us were very impressed.

Hey,I don't like the "new" Disney, either(old ones were OK,but I never got into them even as a child).I ,too, think their movies are really crappy!I hate Disney books, too. So,now there are two of us...I thought I was the only one!

I also agree that Tvs/movies have absolutely no regular place in a preschool or dc.

I have to disagree when you are talking about teens. For younger kids it doesn't matter as much, but teens will do whatever they think they can get away with. And having someone there usually prevents them from being able to get away with as much. There are no ironclad guarantees, but I like the chances better.

But how would being home prevent your kids from bringing their friends around?

I bet she'll quit arguing if you admit that your statement was stupid.

LOL! It is on our very LONG To-Do list....along with seeing the Grand Canyon, visiting Niagara falls (again for dh and i), visiting places in the south (besides florida) and on and on.

We'd love to do it sooner, but dh's business has been especially difficult (he's only been able to cash about 1-2 out of 4 paychecks per month) -- and we have the bar-mitzvah in may...(oh and of course, i'm still planning to do our yearly summer vacation this year).

but don't you worry, it's on the family's "agenda".

You wrote "It's the not working when working WOULD be a benefit I don't get." So YES you were defining the benefit. In your terms not theirs. So stop with the "I never said that" nonsense already.

What is there not to get? Obviously if THEY thought working would be a benefit they would do it. It doesn't matter if you think it would benefit them it only matters if THEY think it would benefit them.

Well,I do less than most women I know, but yeah,I exercise and cook pretty good meals(coq au vin, turkey sausage and tortellini soup this week) 4-5 nights(dh does weekends),read at least 30 minutes to each of my kids, spend time going over homework, volunteer in literacy, clean, walk the dog, take the kids here and there(soccer, swimming ,tumbling),I am taking a certiifcation class. My dh runs a lot of errands on his way home like dropping off videos a few items at the store (it is easier since he goes right by them and it is out of the way of our home) and helps restore order after the kids go up.I could woh now and do it,but it is kind of nice ,I think, to not have to if I don't really want to right now?

Your kids must have a very short school day, if you can manage daily visits to the park, museums and the library, as well as school, homework, activities, etc. Around my house, between school, homework and activties, there simply wouldn't be enough time for a daily outing to a museum. Heck, my oldest wasn't even getting home until 8pm most days between Aug and Dec, because of extracurricular activities. It has nothing to do with my work status, it's driven by the things my kids do.
