Which came first, the title or the SAHW?

Last night I attended my husband's work Christmas party. I sat with the CEO, CFO, CTO, COO (Chief operations officer, I didn't know that acronym, I had to ask), Creative Director, Marketing Director and their wives. Near the end of the evening it was just we wives chatting mostly about kids. I made the observation that even though all the wives were intelligent, educated and accomplished women, not a single one (except me), woh. They are all SAHM's.

Any thoughts on why that might be? I have my own opinion but I'd like to hear from everyone else first. Do you think they sah because of their husbands jobs or their husbands have their jobs because the wives stay home? Or doesn't it matter?

Public transport can be very enjoyable and time well-spent. One great thing about our house location is that we actually have the option of a single bus route to work or riding a bike (it is about a half-hour bike ride to work). Right now, we use cars because it does save an enormous amount of time, especially with all the pick-ups and drop-offs. As the kids get older and are getting to and from school on their own, we'll probably start switching to bus and/or bike riding.

When my mom was a teacher she'd be at school usually by 7:30 and usually got home between 4:00 and 4:30 (she had a 10 minute commute). Then she did lesson plans and graded papers in the evenings.

Well, you'd think as much as I hate grocery shopping I'd be less interested in the touchy-feely aspect of it, but there ya go; I gotta be able to check everything myself.

I really don't seriously consider the delivery services except during filing season (March through June) when we're usually so busy I find myself at Target at least ONCE because I've run out of clean clothes and don't have time to do even one load all the way for the next shift. That's when delivery looks its best.

<<<<< There is no need to grade papers at night, they have plenty of time during the day. Most also offer only one day of extra help so come 2:10, they're out of there.>>>>

This is the biggest crock of cr@p ive seen on here in a long time. evidently your sil and mil are not very dedicated and/or high school teachers who are "riding" on their plan books. my mom was "humping it" right into her 32nd year, because she didnt do the same old garbage day in and day out. she was creative, dedicated, and hard working. there is a lot of reason to "grade papers into the night". they need to be done!! my mom didnt have "plenty of time during the day", as she was a first grade teacher and spent every spare moment she had teaching reading. Her philosophy was, "if you cant read, you cant learn other subjects". Not one child who left her at the end of the year, left illiterate. you are sooooooo buffaloed! Most teachers ive known, and ive known a lot, as ive been surrounded in school and at home all my life, are hard working, and hard driving, and dont take the "easy road". and i can guarantee my mom didnt make anywhere *near* $85,000, otherwise, my dad wouldnt have had to work at all. there are teachers in my city *with masters degrees* who make less than i do reviewing mtg loans. Teaching is a tough field, and you are simply clueless to the subject.

you are the classic stereotypical anti-teacher character.

p.s. my mom left home at 8am and was *never* home before 3:30-4:00. 2:15 is nothing but a joke.

I guess it all depends on what kind of teacher you are.

And many of the "stuffed shirts" slim is referring to choose to work long hours to boost their own egos allowing them to have something to talk about.

i work with people in the exec roles, and believe me, they work 8-5 just like everyone else.

AND, everyone else has the same opportunity to be a teacher as you do. whats wrong with them, if the pay and hours are so cushy???? obviously we know who the smart ones are, if that is the case!
