Which came first, the title or the SAHW?

Last night I attended my husband's work Christmas party. I sat with the CEO, CFO, CTO, COO (Chief operations officer, I didn't know that acronym, I had to ask), Creative Director, Marketing Director and their wives. Near the end of the evening it was just we wives chatting mostly about kids. I made the observation that even though all the wives were intelligent, educated and accomplished women, not a single one (except me), woh. They are all SAHM's.

Any thoughts on why that might be? I have my own opinion but I'd like to hear from everyone else first. Do you think they sah because of their husbands jobs or their husbands have their jobs because the wives stay home? Or doesn't it matter?

But he's not a teen. . .he's 21. . .and MORE than old enough to understand the law. . .as are Jenna and Barbara Bush. . .

It wasn't a 'rite of passage' in my circle of friends to get a fake id. . heck, my dh who was in the Army Reserves when he was 18, 19, 20 didn't have a fake id. . .just because 'everybody's doing it' doesn't make it legal.

As Letterman said "Remember when you're writing that check for Iraqi relief, there are two L's in Halliburton."

I can see that...but I think it's better that we do it w/the Brits and Spanairds and Poles than wait for the UN to pass another million resolutions and do nothing...

If not us, then who?

Let me help you out. The various tax rates are set according to what the taxation base can be expected to realistically handle, and where the particular tax dollar from a particular source is going. If you wish to fund social assistance programs with phone bill taxes, its possible that the phone bill tax will be going up quite a bit. You don't earn or deserve a particular benefit which is funded by tax dollars, simply by virtue of paying some tax, any old tax, somewhere. Whether or not military personnel are woefully underpaid has nothing to do with whether or not they qualify for social assistance benefits. Take THAT up with your sympathetic congressman, and maybe he'll do more than just sympathize with you.

I just don't take 'going to war' lightly. . .I'm sure you understand.

Your harping on nothing at all makes it sound like you have no point. You are aware...we are raising human being here? It takes more than good intentions and there is alot to be learned from how things have worked out previously for others doing/have done very similar things, in very similar environments, around you?

Seeing how things tend to work out, and accepting that yep, you too, as a member of the human race and not some special sub species has nothing to do with heart, soul and spirit. It just helps ensure that the children are being raised by parents with a little more going for them than good intentions.

It's not an issue of how much/little you're taking but rather whether or not you're willing to help yourself or just stick your hand out. People who are not willing to help themselves shouldn't be asking for hand outs. I'd much rather my money be spent helping those who can't help themselves.

"Care to comment on his (GW) declaring the combat 'over' when it very well was NOT. . .only to save money by denying soldiers there to fight the war the combat pay due them. Dh still gets hazardous duty pay, tax free wages, and separation pay. . .BUT the minute GW declared combat over on May 1 he 'saved' $250 per month per soldier. . THAT is just wrong in my opinion."

hmm, you might want to check with finance because my DH still got the combat pay through the end of August (when he came back). There was no change in his pay between May and August and I asked around and no one else received a change in pay.

It's not the money that is the issue but rather people who could work to help themselves choosing instead to take from the system. If you won't work to help yourself, you shouldn't expect someone else to work to help you either. If you're not willing to go to work even part time why would you expect those who are working to help you? The issue isn't the money. It's whether you help yourself or just stick your hand out.

Nah, it's simply the argument of someone who doesn't understand that nothing happens in a vaccuum.

You can't have it both ways. CLW claims her WOH status matters BECAUSE it raises her family's SES. Therefore, one's SAH status must also matter, because it does not raise SES. It's quite simple, really. Cause and effect.
