opinion to DIFFER. What I mean is--is there anyone on this board or in real life whose opinion/reasoning/debating/facts started to make your thinking more to the middle? As in if you thought sah or woh was best & then after some discussion/thought, you began to think that whatever is best for each family--really there is no one best way, etc.

We just really needed a new thread here!!!!!!!!

reading this thread makes me feel like the bad mother, i really dont even think about what my kids eat, let alone have a nutrionist to guide us, or a food chart that i check out. my kids eat what and when they want and i really dont worry about it. granted 90% of what i buy is healthy food but we have junk food in the house too. when my kids get hungry they just go into the fridge or cupboard and get something to eat.

"We use an RV"

That doesn't count as camping in our house. When DH and I were dating, I found out that all the "car" camping (with tent) didn't count either. Apparently it only counts as camping if you hike to the campsite with all your paraphenalia on your back. His buddies at college were counselors at Outward Bound camps.

It does after you've spent a couple years camping in the mountains in Europe in winter (Army). I've done my time in "primitive camp." Camping now requires plumbing and electrical hookups.

Depends on the fruit or veggie. But yes, they do have carbs. An apple or a banana provides food energy. It makes little difference when they eat what. If you think a person is going to put on weight from eating carbs an hour or two or four before bedtime, isn't it going to happen from eating a handful of baby carrots or a pear?

Ummm I think you have me confused. I didn't say a word about my children gaining weight from eating carbs before bed. I have 2 children in two different categories. My son is very tall and my DD is tiny. Neither have any issues with weight.

Same here, now that dd1 has finished growing (she did eventually get over her "failure to thrive". I just don't want them filling their bellies when I'm cooking dinner and it's almost time to eat. But they more or less know better than that by now. The rest of the time, life is too short to monitor what they eat and when they eat it. Maybe I have the luxury of feeling that way because overall they seem to eat in a healthful way. Lots of kids don't, for lots of reasons, and parents can get way involved.

Your post #1878: "A sandwich with 2 pieces of bread is 2 servings. Throw in a bowl of oatmeal (or in my DD case a bowl of cheerios) for breakfast and you are covered for the day". No, you're not, and you recognized that by going on to say they might get pasta for supper. Kids 2 to 6 can have 4, 5 or 6 servings of bread or grains per day, depending on their size and age, of course.
