opinion to DIFFER. What I mean is--is there anyone on this board or in real life whose opinion/reasoning/debating/facts started to make your thinking more to the middle? As in if you thought sah or woh was best & then after some discussion/thought, you began to think that whatever is best for each family--really there is no one best way, etc.

We just really needed a new thread here!!!!!!!!

I don't know about you guys, but I routinely throw away tons of the candy they get through the holidays from school, church, etc...it's never finished.

Lol, my dh used to be that way (he and his brothers are all eagle scouts, so you had to "rough it" or it didn't count). He had to wean me off the air mattress I used to use for car camping. But he mellowed after we had kids. I wouldn't want an rv, but dh thinks it wouldn't be so bad when we retire. He has some idea about traveling around the country in an rv, which isn't going to happen....

She did say in post 1869 that is what her nutritionist advised against when I asked about why no bread after lunch.

So I'm confused as well.

We are the same way. Every year my oldest gets so excited for Halloween. But, eveyr year she hardly eats any of the candy. At Easter, we hardly put any candy in their baskets. They love to get craft stuff in their baskets.

They definitely did not inherit their mothers sweet tooth..lol!

I know all about it, since my dad is too.

Come to think of it, our district has a sort of open enrollment in certain schools policy, too. Population patterns have shifted a bit since some of the elementary schools have been built, and it is easy to get into some "underused building" schools. Some are so underused that the district has developed innovative magnet programs to get into. When we first moved into our neighborhood, our local school was underused and was open enrollment in some grades -- it was because the subdivisions nearby were built in the 70s and early 80s and the kids in the neighborhood had all grown up and the subdivision was mostly retirees. Now there are a lot of "second owners" like us and our school is actually reaching capacity and is no longer open enrollment.

There is a very big social stigma attached to giving up a child for adoption. FOr every person that says "what a wonderful gift" there is another who says "what kind of person would give away their own child". Back in the day, pregnant girls were often sent to "help out a sick aunt" or sent to a home for unwed mothers, where their advancing pregnancy could be hidden from public eyes. Often, they weren't given a choice about keeping their babies - it was assumed once the "problem" was gone at the end of 9 months, the girl would simply appear again into her old life.

There is a social stigma to getting an abortion as well, but it is not nearly as visible or public as advanced pregnancy.

"And frankly, if having sex at 15 makes one grow up believing that the goal is to have as much sexual experience as possible, I'm even more glad that I didn't have sex at 15."

Are you suggesting that I have made such a statement? If so, please cite where I have done so :)
