opinion to DIFFER. What I mean is--is there anyone on this board or in real life whose opinion/reasoning/debating/facts started to make your thinking more to the middle? As in if you thought sah or woh was best & then after some discussion/thought, you began to think that whatever is best for each family--really there is no one best way, etc.

We just really needed a new thread here!!!!!!!!

So where do you think this notion comes from that parental care on a 24/7 basis is ideal?

Well, individual attention isn't really like vitamin c. You can't measure it in nice neat mg and say this much time is the most you need--this much is where the benefit ends. Losing a caregiver isn't something you can measure that way either. I think babies and toddlers can benefit from having more individual attention than they get in a group setting all day. I think having a caregiver who isn't going to quit is a benefit, too. I don't think the ideal amount of individual attention a child needs automatically corresponds to a parent's work schedule.

But, I never needed a study to know that I was doing the right thing by staying at home when they were under 5.

Similarly, a good number of us don't need a study to tell us it's okay for our kids to be with a provider while we work.

But you haven't shown that having the opportunity during the day is of benefit to anyone.

Which state? As for "not that unusual," I didn't say it was usual or unusual; I said it was illegal in the state where Felicia lives.

I'm sure you don't, but your opinion only has validity for your. I haven't seen anyone "slam" any posters for claiming parental care is "ideal over" (whatever that means) DC; what I have seen are posters expecting the OP to substantiate that claim. If parental care is always inherently 'better" then there should be some sort of expected outcome that supports it. And yet, none of those proclaiming the holiness of parental care can manage to verbalize even one future outcome of a child that is impacted by whether he had a SAHM or a provider during the hours of 9 to 5.

And? Did I make a claim for any state other than Maryland?

No idea who they are, but I'm going to guess you're talking about divorce. If those dads deserted their kids, that is very sad. But most divorced parents don't disappear. As I recall, your ex is very involved with your son.

Well, if you want to talk about underprivileged kids specifically, I don't know. Certainly preschool programs are thought be help those kids, but I've never heard that putting them in dc from infancy was supposed to be a benefit. I don't think babies require a trained caregiver, just someone who loves them and cares about them.
