opinion to DIFFER. What I mean is--is there anyone on this board or in real life whose opinion/reasoning/debating/facts started to make your thinking more to the middle? As in if you thought sah or woh was best & then after some discussion/thought, you began to think that whatever is best for each family--really there is no one best way, etc.

We just really needed a new thread here!!!!!!!!

Your implication, by saying such a ratio was "illegal" in MD, was pretty clear.

I live in a western state. I prefer not to give out information about where I live, post pictures of my kids, etc. on the internet. It's nothing personal.

If you doubt me, here's a link to the NAEYC, which says 33 states have 4:1 ratios for infants: http://www.naeyc.org/ece/critical/facts2.asp Only three states have 3:1 ratios; the rest are apparently worse, probably 5:1 like my state.

Why would you presume divorce?

Kristi's husband died a year ago last December. Virgomom's husband has been deployed at various duty stations 3 of the last 4 years, away from their kids, including their 3 year old son.

Really? You think you know me well enough to know my implication? You were talking about daycare conditions that don't and didn't apply to Felicia.

As for higher ratios in other states, it's a shame there isn't some kind of representative government whereby the constituency was able to make its concerns--such as ratios like you describe--known to the government bodies, isn't it? I mean, it leaves the citizenry completely unarmed and without a voice in government in order to legislate for better conditions for kids in daycare. What a shame for you.

And in case you're wondering, my implication in the second paragraph was if you and those in your state actually CARED about daycare conditions, you'd do something about it. There's a reason we have great ratios in ourr infant programs here in Maryland and it's not because we're cuter than you. That, too, is the irony of the daycare wars. Those states which claim the greatest concern for child welfare and family values typically have the WORST daycare ratios, the least governmental oversight, and do little to nothing to improve them.

So it's my fault you assumed I would know what you were talking about?

I know a snotty post when I read one. The one you gave Janet below was snotty too, and this is more of the same. You just don't like being called on it.

And now I'm a poor citizen for living in a state with 5:1 ratios, while you, of course, are responsible for the better infant ratios in your state. Where's that saintly icon when you need it.

A poor citizen? That depends. Are you DOING anything about those ratios?

There's nothing snotty about telling you that you have attempted to apply a ratio to Felicia's argument that does not and has not ever applied. Even when she used center care. If you don't like being corrected, you might try being a bit more accurate.

I didn't say I wanted to talk about underprivileged kids. I suspect their needs are about the same as anyone else's when it comes to care during working hours. Nor have I said that dc in itself was a universal benefit. I'm merely stating that full parental care is *not* a universal benefit.
