opinion to DIFFER. What I mean is--is there anyone on this board or in real life whose opinion/reasoning/debating/facts started to make your thinking more to the middle? As in if you thought sah or woh was best & then after some discussion/thought, you began to think that whatever is best for each family--really there is no one best way, etc.

We just really needed a new thread here!!!!!!!!

Sure you do. You claim to know that othercare is just as ideal as parental care, but you haven't offered any explanation why that is true. Why is it that 4:1 ratios are just as good as 1:1 or 2:1?

I don't need to establish that othercare is inadequate in terms of what kids need, since that's not what I said. I's said numerous times that I don't consider other care to be "inadequate," "inferior," or any of the other words you've tried to pin on me.

It's hard to tell, isn't it. When I first had kids, I thought that girls were mostly socialized to prefer "girl" toys, and that my girls wouldn't develop those preferences if I had equal amounts of "girl" and "boy" stuff around. I quickly saw that I was wrong. I was also surprised at how quickly their own personalities surfaced when they were babies. So I do see that nature has a lot to do with it, too.

Is chocolate better than vanilla? Is an apple better than an orange? Not better, not worse, just *different*, that's all.

Oh come on, you really don't think that you would get a different reaction from a stranger if your response to "what do you do" is "I'm a neurosurgeon" vs. "I'm a SAHM"??? Seriously??? You don't think that society is more impressed with job titles that convey advanced education? I'm not talking about respect for an individual on a personal level, just initial, knee-jerk reaction to hearing what they do for a living.

then please do elaborate....when i meet a stranger, i am just as much commended for being a sahp as a friend of mine is for being a doctor..why should one's jaw drop anymore about a neurosurgeon title than a sah role?

Oh, whatever. Yes, I'm sure all of those women on The Bachelor would be gushing "He's an out of work actor" to the same extent they gush "He's a doctor!". Yep, nobody cares about job titles. I'm obviously wrong in my social observation. You are right, nobody cares. Honestly, you people are pathetically bored if you can argue about something this stupid.

what are the differences? when my kids have friends over to play the care i give them is not different than the care i give my own children - my feelings may be different, but that doesnt impact the level of care i am giving the children.

*Put it to you this way - I have respect for the office of the presidency, but I don't necessarily have respect for the person who holds the title of president*

LOL, well said!!

You are equating "respect" with "impressed by". They aren't really the same thing.
