If DD or DS were crying uncontrollably or otherwise inconsolable, I would most certainly expect their care providers to call me. If they didn't, I would find a new care provider.

50 hours a week? Really? What makes you think a child of dual WOH parents use 50 hours a week of othercare?

That's not my children's experience and I thought the average amount of time spent in daycare was around 32 hours a week?

To be fair, if both parents work outside the home full time, in a part of the country where there are long commutes, or if one of the parents has a job that involves frequent travel, their kids could be in daycare 50 hours a week. I know several families who use 50 or even 55 hours of care in an average week.

I think Liza averaged about 40-45 -- but I don't see anything all that wrong with 50 hours a week either -- she was in a safe lovely warm loving place -- and she was happy as a clam.

I can't sing the praises of the afterschool program enough at St. C's -- man that's a lifesaver -- I can get her as late as 5;30 and her homeworks' done!

I don't think it's necessarily harmful for the children, I just think it rachets the stress level up pretty high in the household.

"a child of full time working parents spends a little less of 50 hrs a week in daycare,"

I seem to remember links on this board that debunks that myth. It came out the the average child with working parents spend around 32 hours per week in "othercare". This is because many parents work different hours or stagger their hours- so one parent stays with the kids an extra hour or two in the am and the other comes home an hour to two earlier in the pm.

For the most part, the parents I know who need 45+ in daycare hours (or different hours), do not choose the daycare environment- they choose the nanny route (and add part day preschool at age 2).
