yeah Ive never been so much about the household chores -- butI do do a lot at 5am when I get up LOL (I never clean and I hate cooking so when you take those things out of the equation it's pretty easy to manage a job and a kid LOL )

"she was happy as a clam."

I think that is the key, IMO and IME. (although, someone still has to prove to me that clams are -in fact- happy.) I had one that loved loved loved daycare and wanted to be there more than he was. I also had one that tolerated, but it wasn't his best fit. More than 32 hours a week definitely stressed him - being at home was a much better fit. If our circumstances were different, we would have gone the nanny route with him had I continued to work. His brother perfectly happy to swap daycare with five day preschool and 3-4 playdates a week.

Of course, there are kids who are in daycare 50 hours a week. Especially if, as you say, you are talking about an area of the country with "long commutes, or if one of the parents has a job that involves frequent travel." I mean, there are even some full time working parents who work opposite shifts and use no othercare at all.

Saying "working parents who both work full time use daycare 50 hours per week" is a terrible generalization.

Well, around here, just because I am home, doesn't mean the laundry gets done either.

I was always very, very envious of parents whose kids' schools offered before/after programs.

I wasn't even aware that laundry could be done anytime other than from like 1-3 am!

Oh yes, I agree. I was just saying that it's not that far fetched.
