First, I wouldn't have chosen the profession if I had a disrespect for teachers.
Because I prefer to do something that is valued.
So?

No going round and round.
Do you actually have something to offer this debate?

>>not really, although I guess you could consider education as one piece of raising a child. <<
You said >>Have I educated them? Yes. Have I taught them manners when needed? Yes. Have I disciplined them when needed? Yes<<
I would consider all of the above part of raising a child.
I definitely consider education part of raising my child, at least until they enter school. Even then, it is my responsibility to make sure the school is doing their part. Also, all parents continue to monitor the child's progress, help them with homework when needed, and so on.
>>Many of them also have tutors, after school activities, coaches and religious school.<<
Yes, and they all have their part in raising a child. In some situations, maybe more so.
>>With the exception of 35 hours per week (leaving those 133 hours per week under MY roof), I did all the "work".<<
I don't understand you calculations. Does this include the time you are sleeping as well?
You didn't do all the
I find it hard to reconcile your feeling that the parents disrespect you with them having a teacher for their child that calls them EACH 3 times per year (if i have that right from a previous post). Frankly, I've almost never heard from any of my son's high school teachers (and he's a graduating senior -- YIKES! -- this year) unless I've been the first to make contact.
I also find it hard to believe that they disrespect you given that you spend countless hours grading their child's papers, planning cool lessons and activities and such.
It just doesn't seem to make much sense. aND while I don't have a different profession experience as I've only been a teacher, I'm quite respected in my school community (with administration, parents and fellow staff members) and parents frequently request to have me as their child's teacher (and have the child on my team of teachers). Then again, I've spent 20 years building just that reputation --and loving most of it:)
