Why should I support someone else?

Let me start by saying that I"m new here so this may have already been discussed, but this has come up in my office several times and I wanted to get some other views of this.

I do payroll for a rather small company so I know most of the workers and their wives (most of the workers are men due to the nature of our business). There are two in particular who's wives SAH. These two are up to their eyeballs in debt. I have bill collectors constantly calling for them. That part is really their business, it is annoying but I enjoy being rude back to the bill collectors, lol.

The part that bothers me is that both wives have been in the office wanting copies of X amount of check stubs so that they can go and get public assistance (I know because they told me that is what it is for)! Why should my tax money go so that these women can SAH? I know that not all families that one parent stays at home are like this, but I know lots that are. Heck, growing up we were always broke because my mother refused to work, but we weren't on any public assistance.

So, why should I pay for a woman to SAH? Why can't she go and get a job to support her family just like anyone else?

I have to tell you, the weekend after we were having these debates about the purses, I looked everytime I went out. We went out to dinner one night and I would say 90% of the women had some designer bag (mostly Coach) (fake or real-who knows).

Wow. The food must not have been very good. The last thing in the world I care about when I am out to dinner is what kinds of handbags the other people in the restaurant are carrying. Or whether they are carrying one at all.

The only thing handbag related I ever wonder about is what the heck Queen Elizabeth II carries in hers. She always has one with her, but wouldn't you think that she has people to carry around just about anything she might possibly need?

lolol!!! No, it was actually in the waiting room and I was very curious after the discussions. I do notice handbags though, always have and even my dh does-lol!!

I can't tell you how many women have designer bags where I live. They are very popular and if someone can not afford a real one, they are buying the fakes.

Actually the one I am carrying now has a number and I am 99.9% sure it is a fake as I got in on vacation, on the street-lol!!
You can find out if it is real or fake by going to the company and seeing if it is a real registered # though.

Alot of the bags in the outlet and not that outdated though--the one I went to on vacation had all up to date bags as I went to the outlet and the real store. They were just cheaper. I know because there was one bag I really liked but it was $500 in the outlet!!!

Seriously, though, how do you justify that? How do you all justify outright theft? Do you think that because the prices are so high for the real ones that somehow people are justfied in stealing the brand name? I just don't get it. Why not just buy a good purse, probably better quality, that you CAN afford, without the fake brand name? That way you have a nice bag to carry your stuff around in, and you don't have to steal from anybody to do it. I do not get what satisfaction people can have in trying to pretend they are richer than they are by copying what rich people do.

if you want to get technical about it,sabina, give them all right names - add, adhd, selective mutism, bipolar, etc. apa has been studying human behavior for years. mental illness, psychiatric disorders and behavior illness are synonyms.

and ah yes,the color imaging of the brain. if you believe in that theory, then may i presume you also believe in gwb's theory behind the terror color coding, too? i don't believe in either nor do some doctors give much credit to rainbow brain colors adn behavior.

i'll conclude with this, mental illness will never be an agreed science,imo....i think meds,in general, are more quick fixes while real problems are shoved under the rug and ignored.

I personally, like some of the designs of the designer bags and have real and fake ones. Since they are so popular, alot of people want them. I have always liked designer bags and have not bought anything else in over 15 years.

The handbag parties are a HUGE thing by me so even though it is stealing by copywriting, it has turned into such a big business that you can't even tell which bag is real or not, even for someone like myself who is very much into the bags.

OK, I have a question. If you really cannot tell the difference between the real thing, that costs, say 500 dollars, and a fake that costs 100, why in the world would anybody, even people with thousands of dollars to blow, buy a "real" one? Unless they had some kind of moral scruples, about stealing, which of course, nobody in your area does.

Well, I can't see how it hurts their sales.
