Why should I support someone else?

Let me start by saying that I"m new here so this may have already been discussed, but this has come up in my office several times and I wanted to get some other views of this.

I do payroll for a rather small company so I know most of the workers and their wives (most of the workers are men due to the nature of our business). There are two in particular who's wives SAH. These two are up to their eyeballs in debt. I have bill collectors constantly calling for them. That part is really their business, it is annoying but I enjoy being rude back to the bill collectors, lol.

The part that bothers me is that both wives have been in the office wanting copies of X amount of check stubs so that they can go and get public assistance (I know because they told me that is what it is for)! Why should my tax money go so that these women can SAH? I know that not all families that one parent stays at home are like this, but I know lots that are. Heck, growing up we were always broke because my mother refused to work, but we weren't on any public assistance.

So, why should I pay for a woman to SAH? Why can't she go and get a job to support her family just like anyone else?

Most of the time, the mentally ill are not addicted to the drugs that would treat them. At least not in the usual sense of "addiction".

I don't. Why do you think that someone manufacturing something illegal would bother to follow any labor laws whatsoever? That is beside the point. The question was, IF YOU KNEW FOR SURE... notice the if... would you still buy it.

How do you know they are not? You don't. All you do know is that they are illegal.

Do you think ANY of the counterfeit handbags are made by legal, reputable manufacturers?

So you believe b/c a obgyn may be the rpimary caregiver they should be prescribing medicine for mental illness?

I dont and that is exactly why i posted the link.

It supports my views that some doctors are good and not so good.

Do you think b/c this link states that some doc's think they want obgyn's prescribing meds for the mentally ill b/c they may be the primary caregiver they should and that they are not doing it already?

Well, there's an all-purpose saying around here that would seem to work as well for pirated handbags as it would for questionable diamonds:

"I wanted one, and I couldn't care less about provenance."

Very true...my point has been all along that some ppl who are prescribed meds for mental illness really are not mentally ill they are addicts.

I would think someone would have gone into the business already seeing how much a profit they can make. You never know.
