Why should I support someone else?

Let me start by saying that I"m new here so this may have already been discussed, but this has come up in my office several times and I wanted to get some other views of this.

I do payroll for a rather small company so I know most of the workers and their wives (most of the workers are men due to the nature of our business). There are two in particular who's wives SAH. These two are up to their eyeballs in debt. I have bill collectors constantly calling for them. That part is really their business, it is annoying but I enjoy being rude back to the bill collectors, lol.

The part that bothers me is that both wives have been in the office wanting copies of X amount of check stubs so that they can go and get public assistance (I know because they told me that is what it is for)! Why should my tax money go so that these women can SAH? I know that not all families that one parent stays at home are like this, but I know lots that are. Heck, growing up we were always broke because my mother refused to work, but we weren't on any public assistance.

So, why should I pay for a woman to SAH? Why can't she go and get a job to support her family just like anyone else?

Cite your source when using the internet on company time is illegal? Cite your source where reading the newspaper on company time is illegal? Cite your source where studying for an exam on company time is illegal? Cite your source where taking an cigarette break is illegal (quit a long time ago). BTDT

None of the above is against any law (US) that I've come across, but I'm not a legal scholar, so you may have more information. I may be breaking a company rule with any of the above, and therefore may have to suffer the consequences. My company could fire me, dock my pay, but I don't think the local, state, or federal law enforcement officials would charge me with a crime.

You may found my internet usage on company time "theivery and stealing and a crime" but my employer and the law disagrees.

Stating that it's not a huge deal and the many other posts on this subject is justification for the illegal

I'm not paid by the hour. My time is my own. Good try.

NoI was trying to get them off your back You're more law abiding than most people btw. (Good luck with the new baby btw)

Its hypocracy for anyone to criticize your CD burning when we are all so openly stealing from our companies. Add to that what we don't know about people off the board and our law abiding behaviors, ayyayyyah! There could be who knows how many crimes You should never admit to having a flaw, don't you know that! We just couldn't know. But its funny.
