Why should I support someone else?

Let me start by saying that I"m new here so this may have already been discussed, but this has come up in my office several times and I wanted to get some other views of this.

I do payroll for a rather small company so I know most of the workers and their wives (most of the workers are men due to the nature of our business). There are two in particular who's wives SAH. These two are up to their eyeballs in debt. I have bill collectors constantly calling for them. That part is really their business, it is annoying but I enjoy being rude back to the bill collectors, lol.

The part that bothers me is that both wives have been in the office wanting copies of X amount of check stubs so that they can go and get public assistance (I know because they told me that is what it is for)! Why should my tax money go so that these women can SAH? I know that not all families that one parent stays at home are like this, but I know lots that are. Heck, growing up we were always broke because my mother refused to work, but we weren't on any public assistance.

So, why should I pay for a woman to SAH? Why can't she go and get a job to support her family just like anyone else?

Again??? Didn't VA already go through this, lol? I believe it is now called West Virginia. Please, please do not call it North Virginia. Can you imagine the confusion?

ITA. Just when I think the hooker/handbag analogy has been exhausted, you find a new angle to prove just how much they have in common.

eh,i think there are some legitimate companies doing illegal business. they're just good, real good about hiding themselves. ebay is one example......i confess to buying dh a coach wallet there a couple years ago for christmas. he had already had an original,*real* one when we were dating but it had about had it so i was searching for a new one. the company on ebay that was selling it had perfect,100% feedback and their products were described as *authentic*. when it arrived,it didn't feel like the real thing, the leather wasn't as soft. i should have guessed,i bought it for only about 50.00.

he still has it,though but i will never trust ebay wrt *authentic* merchandise again.

I terribly hurt that you don't care where I live (sniffle) but that wasn't the point.

Nobody is over reacting and I have only seen dramatics on one end.

It is a huge business but it is a huge ILLEGAL business. Legitimate businesses are no more about to start manufacturing counterfeit handbags than Walmart is about to start selling heroin. If there is a high demand for something illegal, it doesn't suddenly become a good idea for legit businesses to do it.
